This project proposed a new urban renewal concept, which is combining historical-friendly and kids-friendly. Two approaches of reshaping a historical occasion and providing a functional space, in the meantime, including factors such as site and transportation, a new bus stop has been erected as an urban plaza and a historical extension.
Yiyuan Road has a site of historical influences. First of all, bridging the gap between the old and new through using red bricks and shaping public space. Secondly, a metaphor of space-time has been created by a floating roof that mirrored the historical street. In the meantime, the reflected scenery includes the daily life of the people who live there.
Kids-friendly is a major point of this project. Through creating an interesting space, children have been attracted to discover the content within the architecture. There is a child-only tower leading the path from the ground to the roof. Openings of the tower framed view of every historical building nearby. This tower is aimed at providing a space for children to learn from the past.
Kids-experience is another consideration to point out. First of all, curved lines has gives a safe experience whether psychologically for physically. Secondly, the open plan keeps parents from getting lost with their kids. Thirdly, there are a variety of spaces to play in. Last but not least, a good system to feed the needs such as public media, urban culture, ads, etc.
This bus station has been designed while thinking of the urban renewal section. A "U" shape has organized elevations, which include commercial, landscape, and transportation. The traditional bus station has been added to the site but does not stand out from the site. This bus station becomes an urban plaza for riders and kids.
